Marble Kitchen Countertops in Utica, New York

The most timeless of all the stones we offer is by far marble. With it’s distinct veining and color, marble is a highly sought after stone. It’s classic look and appeal is untouched by granite but quartz options with the distinguishable veins have become more popular, providing a cheaper and more accessible option. Marble is a very soft stone and scratches very easily and it also is prone to staining because of how porous and light the stone typically is. Although it has a couple drawbacks, it does disperse heat incredibly well and as long as you care for your stone you will have a beautiful, lasting countertop.

Marble Countertop Colors

Marble is formed from dolomite when enough heat and pressure is applied, creating crystal formations. These crystals are what make marble look beautiful, but also what makes marble so easy to carve into.

It can come in a variety of colors, but overall have the same veiny appearance: its characteristic swirling patterns come from impurities of various minerals, including silt, iron oxide, magnesium and sand, which crystallize in a vein-like pattern within the stone.

How Do I Care For My Marble Countertops?

Caring for your kitchen marble countertops requires constant maintenance, but looks great! Natural stone countertops are not only durable and well-suited to the task, but they will add a beautiful and organic design element to any space.

One countertop cleaner we stand by for all stone materials is “Barkeeper’s Friend.”

DO: Use “Bar Keepers Friend” or a PH neutral, non abrasive cleaning product to keep your surfaces clean without affecting the finish! Prolonged use of any cleaner, including dish soap, can leave a dull film on a polished surface. This can be removed with a granite cleaner or repolishing depending upon the exposure.

DON’T: Use harsh or abrasive cleaners and sponges! Windex and other acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or any cleaner with ammonia or bleach, will dull and weaken the sealant over time. Basically the harsher the cleaner, the quicker it will break down the sealant and the natural components of the stone.

DO: Make sure your natural stone countertop is always properly sealed! We recommend you seal your stone surface every year or so, unless you have purchased an extended sealer, which may extend the longevity of your sealant for up to 15 years if properly maintained.
