Iced Quartz Countertops + Stacked Stone Hearth
When starting a remodeling project, selecting the appropriate products can significantly transform the ambiance of your home. In a recent project in Turin, NY, IVO Cabinets & Surfaces enhanced a customer’s kitchen space by installing quartz countertops that beautifully matched a natural cabinet stain. Additionally, we installed a granite fireplace hearth, further elevating the overall look of their home.
Quartz and granite naturally enhance how a space looks, but quality craftsmanship keeps them looking great for years to come! Our customer went with a stylish Iced White quartz and had us put in Nero Mist Granite for their hearth.
Nero Mist Granite countertops are dark and dramatic. The black background is complemented with soft gray veins and flecks, creating a stunning combination. Quartz is a manufactured product using 95 percent ground natural quartz and 5 percent polymer resins to create an extremely tough and very durable stone surface. Unlike natural stones, such as granite or soapstone, quartz surfaces do not require sealing because they are non-porous. This makes quartz highly resistant to bacteria, chemicals, stains, and moisture. Quartz surfaces come in a variety of different colors, patterns, and styles, making them easy to pair with any cabinet, backsplash or flooring options.
Although quartz is extremely easy to maintain, this material doesn’t disperse heat nearly as well as its natural counterparts so beware of placing any hot pots, pans, or baking sheets directly on these surfaces. Extreme heat or direct sunlight exposure can burn the stone over time, turning it yellow. We recommend using pot holders, trivets or towels to prevent scorching. Benefits of Quartz Countertops
Non-Porous: Custom cut quartz countertops are roughly made from quartz and resin; this makes them stain resistant from food and drinks. Quartz does not require the maintenance of a natural stone sealer.
Low Maintenance: Any spills can be wiped up without extensive scrubbing or effort. Quartz can be cleaned with just plain soap and water.
High Durability: Quartz can withstand the pressures of the kitchen environment and while quartz is heat resistant, it can discolor when subjected to high temperatures over time. High heat can cause the resin in the material to “continue cooking,” resulting in the yellowing of the surface of the material.
